So the other day at work I was listening to music while I counted hundreds of record stampers and a song that caught my attention came on. The song was "Country Girl Commandments" by Tanner Adell. Tanner Adell is a relatively new artist in the country music scene. I couldn't find anything about her other than her Youtube Channel that she shares with her boyfriend and her TikTok. Now, I may be twenty-three but I am not with it and don't have any clue about TikTok. Tanner has 176k followers on TikTok as well as 3.8 Million likes and "Country Girl Commandments" is her debut single. So a decent following. She has a TikTok addressing the conversation she had with her producer about the direction she wanted to go with this first single. Her being a black woman, I think it was expected that she was going to do a R&B or Hip Hop track, but speaking for contemporary country fans like me I am so glad she went in the country direction. According to the TikTok she wanted "a classic country riff, big chorus, & an EDM drop with fiddles on it". And that is exactly what it is. It is full of production surprises which keeps it interesting throughout the whole listen. I'm also a sucker for songs that count down.
Quick!
Give it a quick listen before we jump into some country girl commandments
Alrighty! Did you listen to it? Did you love it? Great! After I listened to it for the first time I thought to myself, "What are my country girl commandments?" This isn't something I have put a lot of thought into until this very moment. I suppose I don't have a lot of rules when it comes to loving me, but I do have a heck of a lot of expectations that determines if I will love someone else. So let's jump into MY Country Girl Commandments. (In no particular order)
10. Hunts/Fishes

I come from a family of hunters and fishermen and I enjoy venison and fresh fish. I want to know that at least once a year I will be able to eat venison and if we are unlucky, he can catch a fish on the way home. I'd happily cook up just about anything he brings home.
9. Accepts that I Am A Clothes Thief
It's not a secret that I am a clothes thief. But I can't help it! The coziest thing in the world is an over sized flannel or sweatshirt that smells like the woodsy deodorant or cologne a man wears.
8. NASCAR
They have to at the very least let me watch the race every Sunday. Bonus points for having a favorite driver (unless it's Kyle Busch) and extra extra bonus points if he goes to a race with me. It's the only sport I follow. So he's gonna have to accept me yelling at men driving in circles.

7. Actually Enjoys Being Outside
I feel most at home out in nature with my barefeet on the earth. I need someone who will jump into the river with me no questions asked. Someone who will spend hours out by a fire looking up at the stars. Someone willing to drive around with me, windows down to enjoy a perfect day. These are some of my favorite things to do by myself and with my friends and family and I would want someone who enjoyed doing those things with me.
6. Country Music Is the Primary Genre
As a music person, I appreciate and respect everyones taste in different kinds of music. However, it would be perfect if my future man loved the genre I have rooted my whole life around. Hello! I'm a country singer/songwriter. To me country music talks about things that I value and I would hope that I would share similar values with the person I'm meant to be with. Also singing in the car together would be epic!

5. Deals With Dead Critters
I don't need help killing creepy crawlies or spiders, but I can't do rodents. I have a cat that kills them, but I need someone to get rid of the body. However, I can do it myself if my man has a pair of knee high rubber boots and fire resistant gloves. Don't judge my process. I've grown a lot since the first dead mouse I encountered. But yeah, a dead rodent disposer would be ideal.
4. Has A Truck
Or another large/tall vehicle that can get into the hard to get to places. In New York, my family has a hunting camp and the road is to say the least a little rough. I can do it in my Subaru, but it's taken quite the beating. It's also just helpful to have a truck bed for...things.

3. Can Fix Things
I'm pretty handy in a pinch, but I'm no where near as good as my father who with a little research can fix almost anything. Something that is super important to me is being with someone who just has a knack for fixing things. Cars, plumbing, electrical. Any and all of these specialties will be accepted.
2. Loves My Cooking
I went on a date recently with a guy that said he wasn't really into food. What?! Everything my Italian mother taught me about winning a man over with mother taught me about food and men was a lie? No. As a person that loves food and loves to cook just like my incredible cook mom I need someone who will devour my home cooked meals leaving the plate complete clear of any trace of food. As my mother has always said, "The way to a mans heart is through his stomach." and that's the only way I know how to get to their heart.
1. Can Talk to My Parents
Family can be complicated. Which is why this isn't "has to have a good relationship with his family". Though that would be a plus. I am super close with my family, all of my family. Grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, second and third. And I can't expect my future man to get along with all of them, all I ask is that he can comfortably talk to my parents. I want them to feel as welcome in my family home as I do. If you meet all of the previous requirements you'll probably do alright in the Pierson household.
What are your country girl (or boy) commandments? I thought the concept was a fun one to think about and I hope you had fun discovering a new song and getting to know me a little better!
